The aim of the project “VET institutions as RDI actors in Uusimaa” is to increase the common understanding of Uusimaa’s innovation actors on the current RDI (research, development and innovation) activities of VET institutions, their capabilities and their goal for the future. The aim is to structure and strengthen the role of VET institutions in innovation and in promoting the green and digital transition.
As a result, the role of VET will be better positioned and identified in the innovation ecosystem in Uusimaa, and VET will be involved in promoting the volume and competitiveness of RDI activities. The starting point for the project is that VET institutions are not necessarily recognized as part of the innovation system and their role in RDI is unstructured, without legislation and funding.
– It would be particularly important to develop a common understanding of what is meant by RDI in VET and what added value VET institutions could bring to the innovation ecosystem in Uusimaa,” summarises Timo Juntunen, an external expert on the project.
Perspectives on RDI in VET
The preliminary study will involve interviews with VET leaders and stakeholders involved in development activities. The project has been funded by the Uusimaa Regional Council through the Supporting Regions for Sustainable Growth and Vitality (AKKE funding).
