Vocational Qualification in Information and Communications Technology for Youth, Software Developer

The Vocational Qualification in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) provides you with versatile skills for working life in the IT sector and gives you eligibility for further studies.

Now available in English, this program targets young people who have completed basic education school, and focuses on software development, with specializations in Web Programming and Artificial Intelligence.

Business College Helsinki is Finland’s largest upper secondary school teaching information and communication technology. We are continuously developing our ICT education in close cooperation with working life.

When you start, there is no need to know anything in advance. Studies begin with courses in HTML5 & CSS3 and Python programming language. In addition, you will study the basic tasks of information and communication technology before advancing to the software development studies.

In the common unit studies, you will also study subjects such as mathematics and languages.

After completing the qualification, you are eligible to apply for further studies in your chosen field at a university or university of applied sciences or enter work-life.

Web Programming and Artificial Intelligence

Web programming, or web application development, combines creative design and technical implementation to ensure that online services, applications, and digital solutions work smoothly and are user-friendly. During your studies, you will gain a broad understanding of full-stack development, which includes both the design and implementation of user interfaces (frontend) and the building of background systems (backend).

We use up-to-date and widely used technologies in our teaching, such as JavaScript, Node.js, and React. In addition to programming, you will practice working in projects, problem-solving, and good software development practices that are valued by employers.

Artificial Intelligence as Part of a Software Developer’s Work

The study path includes studies in AI-assisted software development, responding to current changes in working life. Artificial intelligence will not replace programmers, but it will change the nature of the work: software developers need to know how to use AI effectively and critically as part of their professional skills

In your studies, you will learn how AI can serve as a tool in programming – for example, in generating code, identifying errors, and testing software. At the same time, you will learn to evaluate the solutions produced by AI and ensure that the outcome is high-quality, safe, and fit for purpose.

Why study web programming?

Web programming gives you versatile and up-to-date skills that are needed both now and in the future. This study path provides a strong foundation for a career as a software developer and the opportunity to focus on using modern tools and AI solutions.

Further Studies

After completing the qualification, you can move directly into working life or pursue further studies, for example in the field of information and communications technology.

In addition to specialization skills in programming, interaction and teamwork skills are assets that are beneficial in any job.

Graduates can apply to universities of applied sciences through certificate selection or entrance exam and to universities through entrance exam.
